Fargo Dog Parks

Village West Dog Park

Village West Dog Park is closed temporarily due to wet conditions.

The Dog Park offers fenced in areas for large and small dogs to exercise and socialize. There is seating for dog owners, water fountains for the pets and a dog shelter. The Dog Park is open daily from dawn to dusk year round, weather and turf conditions permitting. The Dog Park is located at Village West Park (45th St and 9th Ave S, Fargo, ND). The park will allow your pet to roam and run in an enclosed area. This will allow your pet to socialize with other pets. The park has fenced areas for both large and small dogs. Strict rules and regulations will be enforced to provide a safe environment for all to enjoy.
Village West Dog Park Rules

There is an area for large dogs (greater than 17" at shoulders) and a small dog area (17" at shoulder or less). The following rules apply to both areas:

4. Children must be under strict supervision at all times.

5. Owners must clean up after their dogs and repair any holes left by their pets.

6. Owners must carry a leash at all times. Dogs should be leashed before entering and prior to leaving the park.

7. Female dogs in heat are prohibited from entering the dog park.

8. Dogs must be removed from the dog park at the first sign of aggression.

9. Violators will be subject to removal from the park and suspension of park privileges.

Pets and Stray Animals

Pets can be wonderful companions, and these tips will help them be good neighbors as well!
Leash laws

A city ordinance requires that your pet remain on a leash when it is not on your property. The leash should not be more than six feet long. When you walk your pet, you must carry along supplies that will allow you to clean up any solid waste deposited by your animal.

There is one spot besides your property where your dog can run free. Take your pooch to one of the two Fargo dog parks for a little exercise and "social time" with other canines.
Problem barking

dogface2Pet owners have a responsibility to keep their cats and dogs from disturbing their neighbors. Continual barking by dogs or howling by cats can make your neighborhood an unpleasant place for others to live. Please be courteous to your neighbors by keeping your animals quiet.

You can call the Fargo Police Department at 235-4493 to report a problem animal in your neighborhood. A community service officer will warn your neighbor to keep his animal quiet. If the problem continues, police will ask you to sign a complaint so they can take further action against the owner of the problem pet.
Pet limits

Cat photoWe are often asked if there is a limit on the number of animals a person can own. The City of Fargo does not have an ordinance limiting the number of animals allowed per residence; however, if anyone is in the commercial business of breeding or boarding animals, and keeps five or more animals, then they must purchase a kennel license which costs $30 per year.

For more information on topics discussed on this Web page, call the community service office of the Fargo Police Department at (701) 241-8284.

For information on adopting a homeless animal, contact Adopt-A-Pet of Fargo-Moorhead or the FM Humane Society.
